CONTINUING ALONG THE JOY PATH

This year I am focusing on JOY.
I "get to" do....what?
What would bring more JOY into my life?

Here's a recent thought stream...
I love making quilts.
I'd love to take my quilts to the next level.
I admire Freddy Moran and Mary Lou Weidman.
They have degrees in art.
Would I like to take an art class?
(I never have.)
YES!

I am currently in my fifth week of Design 1
at the local community college.
Design is defined as:
 the intentional act of
planning, arranging, selecting, and organizing
 STUFF!
(fabric!)

My teacher is wonderful.
He is soooo knowledgeable,
full of energy, funny, and
quite dedicated to:

helping us evaluate art beyond our preferences
giving us the language of art
encouraging us to go beyond the obvious

It turns out that there are
DESIGN ELEMENTS (and
ORGANIZATIONAL PRINCIPLES!
who knew?)

The first design element is line.

Line can create movement.

falling down

We are always influenced by our concept of gravity!

moving up

falling down

More stable

Line has width and direction.

(five blown up lines from magazines united to create one fluid line.)

We are currently working on value.
SO
important
with choosing fabrics.
(I just love love love only medium!)
I'll let you know how it goes.

I can feel my artist eyes
JOYFULLY
spinning, zinging,  and growing!

Now...
a bit of JOY from Judy's for you!

A book from 1916...

and a quilt her mom sewed 15 years ago!
Don't you just love it??!!!!

(the quilt looks like it would fit into Victoria's Finlay's new book, 15 Minutes of Play!)

How do you
"get to"
enJOY
this moment?
