PLEASURE WITH KAFFE FABRIC LEADS TO QUILTING ENJOYMENT!

FUN was the main thought of my last blog.
I have been pondering the idea that life is meant to be fun.
What does that mean? fun...
I again picked up my copy of Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and gratefully acknowledge the synchronicity of having left off at chapter three which is entitled: enjoyment and the quality of life!!! HA!

Mihaly states:
"There are two main strategies we can adopt to improve the quality of life. The first is to try making external conditions match our goals. The second is to change how we experience external conditions to make them fit our goals better."

hmm...

How can everyday life be more harmonious and more satisfying?

"To improve life one must improve the quality of experience...Pleasure is an important component of the quality of life, but by itself does not bring hapiness. Enjoyment is characterized by a forward movement: by a sense of novelty, of accomplishment...After an enjoyable event we know that we have changed, that our self has grown: in some respect we have become more complex as a result of it."

hmm..

it is a pleasure to look at this old Kaffe Kuilt

and this one

and my Kaffe kollection brings me lots of pleasure

BUT...

More enjoyable...

 begin a quilt!

cutting squares

that become square in squares

that suddenly open up the possibilities!

and then there are these lovelies

and more possibilities

For reaching past mere pleasure

into the realm of enjoyment

The components of enjoyment are clearly discussed in the Flow

when I quilt I am in the flow

Mr.Csikszentmihalyi says that, "Without enjoyment life can be endured, and it can even be pleasant. But it can be so only precariously, depending on luck and the cooperation of external environment. To gain personal control over the quality of experience, however, one needs to learn how to build enjoyment into what happens day in, day out."

Enjoyment day in, day out.

Sounds like FUN!

  1. such an awesome book! I love your ideas for a Kaffe Kuilt! There's something about those fabrics that resonates within, dont' you think?

Have you seen this blog? I think you might like it because I'm perfectly enthralled with it! I love the words. Words are amazing. 26 letters make thousands of words make millions of books. no two exactly alike, like fingerprints.

i don't think it has to be girls--it could be flowers; anything that brings love, light, healing, flow, synergy, or levitation to your life! You're so creative--I'd like to see what you'd do!
